FIRE Math Classrooms
A System That Makes Engagement and Differentiation Work for All Students
THE PROBLEM
In many schools, teachers are asked to differentiate, increase engagement, and improve outcomes—often all at the same time.
The challenge is not effort.
The challenge is that these expectations are rarely supported by a system.
As a result:
• Students enter lessons without the necessary prerequisites
• Teachers try to meet multiple needs without a clear structure
• Engagement strategies work inconsistently
• Gaps are identified too late
This is not a teaching problem.
It is a systems problem.
One Lesson. Three Experiences.
All three students are working on the same math problem—but their experience is not the same.
Without the right systems in place, gaps in understanding lead to confusion, frustration, and disengagement.
THE SOLUTION
FIRE Math Classrooms provide a structured system that ensures all students can access grade-level math content while maintaining high engagement.
This system is built from real classroom experience and designed to work with any curriculum.
At the core of this model is our Access For All system, which ensures that differentiation is not left to chance—it is built into the instructional process.
Same Lesson. Full Access for Every Student.
All three students are engaged in the same math lesson—because they have the tools they need to succeed. When classrooms are built with intentional systems and differentiation, every student can access, participate, and grow.
HOW IT WORKS
Access For All System
The FIRE Math Classroom model begins before the lesson is taught.
**1. Pre-Assessment of Prerequisite Skills**
Students are assessed on the foundational skills needed for upcoming content.
**2. Targeted Warmups (Weeks Before Instruction)**
Bellringers are intentionally designed to close prerequisite gaps before the lesson begins.
**3. Structured Lesson Access Points**
All students engage with the same grade-level content, supported by clear entry points and scaffolds.
**4. Skill-Based Differentiation Tools**
Each skill includes targeted tools that support different levels of understanding without lowering expectations.
**5. Engagement Systems Built Into Instruction**
Participation, discourse, and thinking are structured so every student is actively involved.
This system ensures that students are prepared, supported, and engaged—every day.
FUNCTION → ENGAGEMENT
In our experience, engagement and classroom function are directly connected.
Many classrooms struggle with engagement not because teachers lack strategies, but because the classroom systems are not built to support them.
We focus on:
• Transitions between activities
• Use of instructional time
• Student workflow and participation structures
• Classroom organization and materials
When these systems are aligned, engagement is no longer inconsistent—it becomes the norm.
Function drives engagement.
